Why Connect for Good Was Created

In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General sounded the alarm on an epidemic of loneliness and isolation affecting nearly half of all adults in America. Loneliness is more than an emotional struggle—it’s a public health crisis. But there’s hope: building meaningful social connections and engaging in volunteerism are powerful antidotes.

At Connect for Good, our foundation is built on five core values: connections, compassion, cooperation, generosity and reciprocity. We believe that vibrant social networks and active civic engagement are essential for a thriving society.

Here in the Grand Valley, the need for stronger community connections was clear. Over the past decade—and especially during COVID—new residents have discovered this region, drawn by its breathtaking natural beauty, friendly people, abundant outdoor activities, and unique mix of small-town charm with big-city amenities. Yet, many newcomers find it challenging to establish meaningful relationships and roots.

That’s where Connect for Good comes in. We bridge the gaps between people, ideas, and opportunities, offering a safe, welcoming space for individuals from all walks of life to come together, share knowledge, and strengthen our community. Think of us as a chamber of community, creating opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds, professions, cultures, and neighborhoods to connect and foster bonds of mutual support.

Another critical challenge we address is the disconnect between nonprofits and the broader community. Many nonprofits in the Grand Valley—and beyond—struggle to engage new supporters, particularly those with diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills. Meanwhile, many community members are eager to make a difference but don’t know how or where to start.

At Connect for Good, we create pathways for people to discover shared interests and opportunities to collaborate. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to help every person feel connected, valued, and empowered to contribute to the common good. Together, we can build a more inclusive, vibrant, and resilient community—one connection at a time.
